Schema Markup for AI Visibility

What It Is

Implement structured data (HowTo, FAQ, Product, Article, LocalBusiness schema) to help both Google and large language models parse and cite your content accurately. Schema markup is the clearest machine-readable signal of what your page contains — it bridges the gap between how humans and machines interpret the same content.

How It Works

  1. Audit existing schema using Google’s Rich Results Test and Schema Markup Validator — identify which pages have no schema, which have errors, and which types are missing for your content formats
  2. Prioritize schema types based on your page types: HowTo for guides and tutorials, FAQ for Q&A sections, Product for eCommerce pages, LocalBusiness for location-based businesses
  3. Implement via JSON-LD (Google’s preferred method) in the page head — avoid Microdata or RDFa which are harder to maintain and audit
  4. For AI/LLM visibility specifically: ensure your Organization schema includes a sameAs array linking to all your authoritative social profiles, Wikipedia entry, and Wikidata entity
  5. Test using Google Search Console’s Rich Results report after 2–4 weeks — monitor which schema types are generating rich result impressions and fix any validation errors
