Human-First Content Strategy

What It Is

Prioritize writing for actual user satisfaction and task completion over optimizing for algorithm signals. Stop reverse-engineering Google and instead build content that a real user would bookmark, share, and return to. Human-first content outperforms algorithm-first content long-term because it produces the satisfaction signals that Google’s ranking models are trained to reward.

How It Works

  1. Interview 5 real customers about what they searched for, what they clicked, and what would have made a better result — this becomes your content brief foundation
  2. Remove keyword density as a metric from your content briefs entirely — stop counting how many times a phrase appears and start measuring whether the user got what they needed
  3. Write a “user success” definition for each piece: what does the user know or be able to do after reading this? That outcome drives every editorial decision
  4. Measure content performance by satisfaction signals — scroll depth (GA4 scroll events), return visits, engagement rate — not just rankings and clicks
  5. Audit existing content against the user success definition and rewrite pieces that fail it — content that ranks but doesn’t satisfy will eventually lose those rankings
