What It Is
Systematically build on-page and off-page signals for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness — the framework Google quality raters use to evaluate content quality, especially in YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) verticals like health, finance, and legal. E-E-A-T is not a direct ranking factor but rather the lens through which quality raters score pages, which in turn trains Google’s ranking models.
How It Works
- Read Google’s Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines (publicly available PDF) and identify the specific criteria for your content type — YMYL content is held to a higher standard than entertainment content
- Add first-person experience markers to content: photos from real client work, actual case data with results, specific examples that only someone with direct experience could provide
- Build author expertise pages with credentials, published work, speaking engagements, course completions, and social proof — link these pages from every article the author publishes
- Earn mentions and quotes in third-party publications in your niche — this establishes external authoritativeness that on-site signals alone cannot replicate
- Add site-level trust signals: clear privacy policy, visible contact information with a physical address, security certificate, and a transparent “about this site” page
